Picard May Day flea market facing the Pond
The Grattepanche Flea Market is held every May 1st facing the Pond, in this Amiénois village located south of Amiens. This annual réderie is part of the Picard tradition of Labor Day flea markets and brings together private exhibitors and bargain hunters in a village atmosphere.
Every May 1st, the village of Grattepanche, south of Amiens, participates in the great day of Picard réderies. Its event is held facing the Pond, a central water feature of the village that serves as a geographical landmark.
Village ponds, very present in the Picard landscape, are both natural and social heritage. The Grattepanche pond serves as a gathering point for the commune and hosts the flea market stalls every May 1st.
Like most rural Picard réderies, the Grattepanche one relies mainly on the participation of village residents and neighboring communes. Clothing, toys, crockery, books, small furniture, knick-knacks, tools.
Grattepanche is a commune of about three hundred inhabitants, located on the Picard plateau about fifteen kilometers south of Amiens.
Participating in the Grattepanche Flea Market also means tasting that special atmosphere of Picard countryside in May: greening hedges, blooming lilacs, the first mild rays of sun after winter.
