Spring hunting at the boulodrome of the Garonne bastide
Every spring, the Demain la vie association hosts its large flea market at the boulodrome of Verdun-sur-Garonne, a former royal bastide founded in 1279 on the left bank of the Garonne. The Sunday gathering, from 8am to 6pm, brings together private sellers from Tarn-et-Garonne and Haute-Garonne in a shaded setting ideal for hunting. Refreshments and food on site, friendly atmosphere, very affordable pitch fees: a must-attend event for bargain hunters between Toulouse and Montauban.
Verdun-sur-Garonne, a royal bastide founded in 1279 by Eustache de Beaumarchais, seneschal of Toulouse, displays its remarkable heritage on a terrace overlooking the left bank of the Garonne. The 14th-century Clock Tower, the 16th-century Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame church, the half-timbered houses and the famous avenue of plane trees classified as a living Historic Monument since 1815 bear witness to the prestigious past of this former river port. It is in this setting of stone and water that the Demain la vie association organises its spring flea market every year, now a tradition for hunters in southern Tarn-et-Garonne.
The event is held at the Verdun boulodrome, a practical space offering sellers an open, partially shaded area and visitors a smooth flow between stalls. From 8am to 6pm, the day unfolds at the rhythm of discovery. Private sellers from Verdun, Grisolles, Bessens, Dieupentale, Montech and Saint-Sardos lay out crockery, clothes, toys, books, family brocante, small furniture, vinyl records and trinkets. Some seasoned hunters come down from Toulouse, less than 40 minutes away on the D820, to enjoy the gentle prices and the authenticity of the gathering.
The Demain la vie association is a key player in Verdun's community life. Based at 44 rue Danielle Casanova, it runs a rich year-round programme: lotteries, gourmet market, Italian dinner, and active participation in the early-December Telethon weekend. The April flea market is its flagship event, both a showcase of its commitment and a fundraiser for its actions. The volunteers, welcoming and well-versed, run a refreshment and food stand that delights hunters mid-morning.
Arrive early, around 8-9am, for the best pieces: family brocante, collectible toys and antique crockery go fast. Bring small cash, essential for haggling. Take advantage of your visit to wander the bastide: the market square, the half-timbered alleys, the avenue of plane trees and the view over the Garonne are well worth the detour. Heritage lovers can extend with a visit to the Belleperche castle 25 minutes north, or a stop at the Saint-Nicolas-de-la-Grave leisure park.
For the quality of finds in a village atmosphere, for the unbeatable pitch fee (2€ per linear metre), for the heritage setting of the royal bastide, for the warm welcome of the Demain la vie association, and for easy access from Toulouse and Montauban alike: the Verdun-sur-Garonne flea market richly deserves its place in any Occitan hunter's spring agenda.
The 2026 edition of the Demain la vie association flea market took place on Sunday 12 April 2026 at the Verdun-sur-Garonne boulodrome, from 8am to 6pm. Private sellers from southern Tarn-et-Garonne and neighbouring Haute-Garonne enjoyed the spring setting of the royal bastide to hunt family brocante, toys, clothes, crockery and small furniture. On-site refreshments accompanied a day under the sign of conviviality.
The Demain la vie association renewed in April 2026 its great spring flea market at the Verdun-sur-Garonne boulodrome. On Sunday 12 April, from 8am to 6pm, private sellers from the Verdun area and hunters from Toulouse, Montauban, Grisolles, Montech and Saint-Sardos walked the aisles under a spring sun. Family brocante, toys, clothes, books, crockery, vinyl records and small furniture made up the offer, at consistently gentle prices.
The event once again confirmed its tried-and-tested formula: €2 per linear metre with a 5-metre minimum, prior booking with the association by email or phone, refreshments and food run by volunteers throughout the day. The flea market, the main funder of Demain la vie's activities alongside lotteries, the gourmet market and the Telethon, kept its promises of conviviality and quality hunting in the unique heritage setting of the royal bastide founded in 1279.
