May Day bargain hunting in the White Quercy
Nestled between the valleys of the Lendou and the Barguelone, the village of Tréjouls welcomes every 1st of May its flea market run by the Organik Évents Arts association. A friendly White Quercy event a few kilometres from Lauzerte — one of France's most beautiful bastides —, it brings together private sellers and bargain hunters around the village hall for a spring day of celebration.
Tréjouls is a small commune of 240 inhabitants in the north-west of Tarn-et-Garonne, canton of Lauzerte, deep in the White Quercy. Shaped by two parishes — Saint-Urcisse in the Lendou valley and Tréjouls in the Barguelone valley — the commune draws the silhouette of a butterfly with outstretched wings. Each 1st of May, the Organik Évents Arts association runs a flea market that has become a much-anticipated seasonal gathering.
The flea market takes place around the village hall, at 410 chemin de la Salle des Fêtes. The format is resolutely on a human scale: bargain hunting outdoors in an open field, in an environment of limestone hills and agricultural plateaux characteristic of White Quercy. The hall itself serves as the logistics hub for refreshments and food.
Mostly private sellers from the Quercy and around Lauzerte, the flea market offers the great classics: adult and children's clothing, toys, books, crockery, knick-knacks, small furniture, vinyl records and family bric-a-brac. A few exhibitors also bring vintage items, old tools and curiosities from Quercy barns. The organising association — with a cultural and event-based vocation — sometimes gives the day an artistic touch with craft stalls or shows.
1 May is a French bank holiday — one of the great traditional bargain-hunting dates. The day starts at 8 am and runs until 6 pm. Refreshments and food are available on site. Use your visit to discover Lauzerte, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, just 10 minutes away: medieval Place des Cornières, cobbled lanes and panoramic views over the Quercy hills.
