The Spring Flea Market of Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire is one of the highlights of the treasure hunting calendar in southern Charente. Every year in mid-May, the Esplanade de Plaisance, a vast space located on avenue de Plaisance, hosts over 300 exhibitors, both individuals and professionals. This impressive number of sellers makes it one of the most important flea markets in the southern part of the department.

A day of treasure hunting and conviviality

From 8 am to 7 pm, treasure hunters browse the aisles of this gigantic open-air flea market. The choice is immense: furniture, tableware, trinkets, vintage clothing, toys, books, old tools, and curiosities from all eras. The atmosphere is festive and relaxed, with a complimentary aperitif from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm that enhances the event's conviviality.

Activities and catering

Beyond the flea market, the event features a Citroën vehicle exhibition that attracts vintage car enthusiasts. A catering area offers fries, sausages, merguez, andouillettes, and sandwiches, accompanied by a well-stocked refreshment stand. Exhibitors can arrive as early as the evening before upon reservation, making it easier for sellers coming from afar to set up.

Barbezieux, a medieval town in southern Charente

Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire is a small town with character in the south of Charente, dominated by its imposing medieval castle rebuilt in the 15th century. The historical capital of southern Charente, the commune is surrounded by vineyards producing cognac from the Fins Bois region. The Esplanade de Plaisance, which hosts the flea market, is a large, tree-lined space ideal for this type of event, with parking and restrooms available.
