The Barbaste Car Boot Sale

Every end of July, the church square of Barbaste (47230) hosts its annual car boot sale. This popular event in the Gélise valley brings together exhibitors and bargain hunters in a setting that lacks no charm: a stone's throw from the Tours Mill, a medieval monument that bears witness to the passage of Henri IV during his stays in Nérac.

An Exceptional Historical Setting

The Tours Mill of Barbaste is one of the most emblematic monuments of Lot-et-Garonne. This 14th-century medieval fortress, whose four round towers and machicolations are reflected in the Gélise, was the communal mill of the lords of Albret. Henri IV, born in Pau but raised at the castle of Nérac, frequented it during his long youth in Gascony. Organizing a car boot sale at its feet is to place the flea market within five centuries of history.

From 6 am to 4 pm, Private Sellers

The day starts very early, from 6:00 am, when the first exhibitors set up in the still cool morning square. The sale continues until 4:00 pm, giving bargain hunters a wide window of time to explore the stalls. The exhibitors are private individuals offering clothes, books, toys, crockery, tools, records, and various objects. Refreshments and light meals are available on site.

Barbaste and the Gélise Valley

Barbaste (47230) is a commune in the Gélise valley, a few kilometers from Nérac. Its fabric of old houses, its church, and especially its Tours Mill make it a village of great heritage richness. The Gélise, whose waters once supplied the mill and its water wheels, flows through the village in a lazy meander between the foliage. This gentle and preserved nature gives the car boot sale a rustic atmosphere that is its charm.
