The Nordhouse Flea Market is a traditional Bastille Day event in Bas-Rhin. Organized by the USN (Union Sportive de Nordhouse) in the village streets and at the football stadium, it is part of the National Day festivities. Private vendors and bargain-hunters come together for a friendly day combining bargain-hunting and patriotic atmosphere. Food, refreshments, Bastille Day ball and fireworks in the evening at the place des Fetes crown this fine summer day.
The Nordhouse Flea Market is the highlight of the July 14 festivities in this southern Bas-Rhin village. Organized by the USN (Union Sportive de Nordhouse), it stretches through the village streets and at the municipal football stadium. Residents of Nordhouse, neighboring communes and the Strasbourg area come together each July 14 for a day dedicated to bargain-hunting, conviviality and patriotic festivities that make all the magic of the National Day in Alsace.
From morning, private vendors set up to offer rustic furniture, faience tableware, second-hand books, toys, comics, vinyls, vintage clothing and curiosities. Bargain-hunters walk the alleys looking for good deals, enjoying the low prices typical of village flea markets. The atmosphere is family-friendly and relaxed, with many residents coming to spend the day as both vendors and visitors. The food service offers pretzels, merguez, fries and cold drinks.
The flea market is only the first act of a day entirely dedicated to celebrating the National Day. In the evening, from 7pm, the place des Fetes hosts the official ceremony and the traditional Bastille Day ball that brings together all generations. The fireworks set off in the evening light up the Alsatian sky and magnificently close this patriotic day. A true popular festival combining bargain-hunting, music, dance and pyrotechnics.
Nordhouse is a commune of about 2,000 inhabitants located in the Bas-Rhin, south of Strasbourg, in the heart of the alluvial plain of the Rhine. Bordered by the Rhenish forest and the clear waters of the river, the village preserves a typical rural heritage with its Saint-Maurice church, half-timbered houses and village square. A member of the Pays d'Erstein community of communes, Nordhouse offers a peaceful living environment halfway between Strasbourg and Selestat. The July 14 festival is one of the major summer events that bring together the entire village community.
