Large flea market with 3 km of stands in the streets of Matzenheim, organised by FC Matzenheim
The Matzenheim Flea Market is one of the largest flea markets in central Alsace. Organised by the Matzenheim Football Club, it stretches over 3 kilometres of stands through the village streets and its Heussern annex each year, attracting hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors. From 8am, bargain hunters roam Rue des Vignes and adjacent streets, searching for good deals among a considerable choice of items: furniture, crockery, clothing, toys, books, vinyls, tools, trinkets, collectibles and unusual objects of all kinds. The scale of this flea market makes it an unmissable spring event in the Bas-Rhin, drawing visitors from across the Ried, Sélestat, Erstein and the Strasbourg urban area. Refreshments and catering provided by the football club volunteers complete this festive day.
The Matzenheim Flea Market is a large-scale event distinguished by its exceptional size: over 3 kilometres of stands stretch through the village streets and its Heussern annex, making this event one of the largest flea markets in central Alsace. Organised by FC Matzenheim, it mobilises dozens of volunteers each year for setup, signage, security and catering. Hundreds of exhibitors — private and professional — line Rue des Vignes and adjacent streets to offer a considerable range of items: antique and modern furniture, crockery, glassware, adult and children's clothing, toys, books, comics, vinyls, CDs, trinkets, decorative items, DIY and garden tools, sports equipment, IT and electronic equipment, and countless curiosities.
Matzenheim is located at the heart of the Alsatian Ried, this vast alluvial plain of the Rhine characterised by its wet meadows, oak forests and traditional villages. The village flea market is part of the very vibrant tradition of brocantes and flea markets in Alsace, where each commune organises at least one annual event in aid of its associations. The Matzenheim market stands out through its sheer scale: with over 3 km of exhibition line, it rivals the largest events in the department. Bargain hunters from Sélestat, Erstein, Benfeld and across the Alsatian plain flock from the earliest hours to find the best deals before the crowds. The atmosphere is lively, joyful, with that typically Alsatian mix of seriousness in the hunt and conviviality in exchanges.
Matzenheim is a commune in the Bas-Rhin of around 1,800 inhabitants, located in the Sélestat-Erstein arrondissement, between Erstein and Benfeld. The village comprises the main town and the Heussern annex, connected by a network of streets lined with traditional Alsatian houses. Matzenheim enjoys a particularly rich community life, driven notably by the Football Club which organises this imposing flea market each spring. The dynamism of this small Ried commune is also manifested through other festive and cultural events throughout the year, confirming the attachment of its inhabitants to conviviality and community spirit.
