Professional antiques sale every 3rd Saturday
Loudun, sub-prefecture of northern Vienne on the borders of Anjou and Touraine, hosts a professional antiques fair every 3rd Saturday from May to December on Place de la Porte de Chinon. A landmark for collectors from Poitou and neighbouring departments.
The format is clear: a professional brocante reserved for registered antique dealers, guaranteeing higher-quality goods than a typical vide-grenier. Around 20-30 professional exhibitors set up from 9am, trading until 6pm.
The square is named after the medieval gate that once marked the exit of the fortified town towards Chinon. Chining near the old town remnants and the 11th-century square tower lends real atmosphere.
Loudun is a town of art and history, birthplace of Théophraste Renaudot (founder of the French press) and scene of the 17th-century Urbain Grandier possessions affair. Square tower, Sainte-Croix collegiate, Saint-Pierre-du-Marché church, half-timbered houses.
Monthly timing lets collectors return regularly as stocks rotate. Market, shops and restaurants complete the visit.
