Long, one of the Somme valley's jewels

Long is a remarkable village in the Somme valley, known for its architectural and natural heritage. The village keeps a listed 18th-century castle, a Romanesque church, and a vast reed-lined pond. It has the distinction of housing one of France's oldest operational hydroelectric stations, on the Somme river. The village is part of the Baie de Somme — Picardie maritime regional nature park, recognised for its marshes, ponds and reedbeds.

The Long Floralies and Brocante fit ideally into a day exploring the Somme valley. The valley, between Amiens and the Bay, offers landscapes unique in France: vast marshes, hortillonnages, fish ponds, picturesque villages. Around Long, the villages of Longpré-les-Corps-Saints, Pont-Remy, Liercourt and Hangest-sur-Somme are worth a detour. The Maison de l'Oiseau in Lanchères, an hour's drive away, perfectly completes a day dedicated to nature and Picard heritage.

Visitor tips

Bring cash, a sturdy bag for brocante finds, a basket for plants, comfortable shoes to roam the village. Arrive early for the floralies (best plants go fast) and extend mid-morning to the brocante. Afternoons are ideal for strolling and visiting monuments. Parking on the village outskirts with a short walk to the event.
