Grand flea market in the streets and squares of the village of Sillegny, the Sistine Chapel of the Seille
For over twenty years, the Foyer des Jeunes de Sillegny Pommérieux has been organizing "Les Greniers de la Seille", a large-scale flea market that takes over the village streets and squares. Approximately 200 exhibitors set up in this picturesque setting, attracting bargain hunters from all over the Metz region and beyond.
Sillegny is a village of 580 inhabitants located in the Seille valley, about fifteen kilometers south of Metz. The village owes its fame to its Saint-Martin church, whose remarkable 16th-century wall paintings, discovered in 1845, earned it the nickname "Sistine Chapel of the Seille". These frescoes, created in tempera around 1540 and fully restored between 2002 and 2004, depict biblical scenes of exceptional quality.
The Foyer des Jeunes de Sillegny Pommérieux, active for over 40 years, aims to revitalize rural life by offering sports activities and unifying events. Les Greniers de la Seille has become the highlight of the year, bringing together the inhabitants of Sillegny, Pommérieux, and neighboring villages for a friendly day of treasure hunting.
