Summer antiques fair at the heart of Montmorillonnais
La Trimouille is a small town of around 1,000 inhabitants in southeast Vienne, in the Montmorillon canton. A historic cantonal centre with active community life, it hosts each early August a brocante that draws fans of antiques and browsing from Poitou and neighbouring departments.
Nestled between the Benaize and Gartempe valleys, La Trimouille has the typical backcountry Poitou feel: pale-stone houses, winding lanes, the Romanesque-origin Saint-Léger church, preserved forests and farmland. The fair unfolds across the main square and adjoining streets.
La Trimouille sits at the junction of Montmorillonnais (north), Brenne (east, Indre) and Haute-Vienne (south). Its cultural richness and rural heritage are notable. Nearby: Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe (UNESCO Romanesque frescoes, 35 km), Angles-sur-l'Anglin (Most Beautiful Village), Lac de Chardes.
Unlike a private-sellers flea market, La Trimouille's fair often mixes private sellers and professional brocanteurs. Expect unexpected attic finds alongside more curated pieces, especially antique furniture, tableware and decoration. Atmosphere remains relaxed.
