The La Petite-Pierre Flea Market offers bargain-hunters a truly exceptional setting. Perched on a rocky outcrop at 340 meters altitude, La Petite-Pierre is a medieval fortified village listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and heart of the Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park, itself classified as a UNESCO world biosphere reserve. Held on July 14, this market is part of the National Day festivities and benefits from the summer tourist influx linked to this remarkable heritage site.
The market takes place at the village football stadium. It is strictly reserved for private sellers — no professionals are allowed —, which guarantees an authentic bargain-hunting experience with affordable prices and a wide variety of finds. Rustic furniture, antique tableware, second-hand books, comics, vinyls, toys, vintage clothing, trinkets and curiosities mingle in a warm and cheerful atmosphere. Vendor registrations are made in advance by email with the organizers.
The La Petite-Pierre flea market is also renowned for its traditional food: the highlight of the day is the wild boar on the spit prepared and offered for tasting by local hunters, a specialty that recalls the forest vocation of the Northern Vosges. Pretzels, grilled food, fries, pastries and local beer complete the offer. The atmosphere is that of a country festival where bargain-hunters and residents share a moment of conviviality at the foot of the fortress, with stunning views of the surrounding wooded hills.
La Petite-Pierre (Lutzelstein in German) is a commune of about 550 inhabitants in the Bas-Rhin, perched on a rocky promontory in the heart of the Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park. Dominated by its impressive medieval fortress built in the 13th century and redesigned by Vauban in the 17th century, the village preserves its ramparts, fortified gates, old houses and Romanesque church. A former summer residence of landgraves, it now houses the headquarters of the Regional Natural Park and several museums including the Alsatian Seal Museum. Surrounded by forests, hiking trails and spectacular viewpoints, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in northern Alsace.
