The 2025 edition of the Journée du Livre Ancien et Moderne on Place Castellane brought together about ten professional booksellers from APALM each month at the foot of the Cantini fountain in Marseille. Bibliophiles and reading enthusiasts could browse through bound books, illustrated and original editions, reference books on Provence, literature, science, and the arts, as well as prints, engravings, comic books, cinema posters, and vinyl records. This free event confirmed its place in the cultural landscape of the 6th arrondissement.
Throughout 2025, the Journée du Livre Ancien et Moderne held its monthly event on Place Castellane, in the 6th arrondissement of Marseille. At the foot of the Cantini fountain, a listed Historic Monument, about ten professional booksellers who are members of APALM (Association pour la Promotion Active du Livre à Marseille) offered a carefully selected range of old and modern works each month.
Visitors found on the stalls bound books in period leather and half-bindings, illustrated editions adorned with engravings, original editions sought after by collectors, as well as a wide selection of reference books covering Provence, literature, science and technology, history, geography, social sciences, and the arts. Lovers of comic books, prints, engravings, cinema posters, and vinyl records also found something to their liking.
The free admission and friendly atmosphere of this specialized market attracted a diverse audience — seasoned bibliophiles, students, researchers, and curious strollers — in an exceptional heritage setting, at the crossroads of Avenue du Prado and Rue de Rome. The 2025 edition confirmed the anchoring of this event in Marseille's cultural life, and APALM booksellers will be back in 2026 in the same square for another season of bibliophilic discoveries.
