About Jaujac Flea Market

Every May, the Amicale Laïque de Jaujac organizes its flea market and car boot sale fair on the Place du Champ de Mars, in the heart of this Ardèche village nestled in the Gorges de la Lignon. With 80 exhibitors and free entry for visitors, this annual event brings together bargain hunters and collectors in an exceptional natural setting at the foot of the Ardèche volcanoes.

The Jaujac Flea Market and Car Boot Sale Fair

Every May, the Place du Champ de Mars in Jaujac transforms into a vast flea market and car boot sale, animated by the Amicale Laïque de Jaujac. This local association, a pillar of the village's cultural and social life, has been organizing this long-awaited event for collectors from southern Ardèche and neighboring departments for many years. With its 80 exhibitors, the fair is significant in size for a village of this scale, reflecting the vitality of the Amicale and the population's attachment to this spring tradition.

The Place du Champ de Mars, the village's large central square, provides an ideal setting for the many tables and stalls of the exhibitors. Individuals and professional dealers mingle harmoniously, offering a wide range of second-hand items: antique furniture, tableware and porcelain, books and magazines, vintage clothing and accessories, toys and games, tools and rural objects, trinkets and decorative items, paintings and prints. Each edition brings its share of unexpected discoveries for the most patient bargain hunters and the most discerning collectors.

Entry is free for visitors, which contributes to the large turnout from surrounding towns and the spa and tourist resorts in the Ardèche valley. Conviviality is at the heart of the event: catering and refreshments are available on-site, in the tradition of Ardèche village fairs that combine discovery, the pleasure of hunting for treasures, and moments of sharing.

Jaujac, an Ardèche village in the heart of the volcanoes

Jaujac is a commune in Ardèche (department 07, postal code 07380) with about 800 inhabitants, nestled in the Gorges de la Lignon, at the foot of the volcanic massif of Tanargue. This village of character, whose name evokes the Gaulish and medieval heritage of Vivarais, is surrounded by a strikingly beautiful natural environment: waterfalls, deep gorges, ancient chestnut groves, and panoramic views of the ancient volcanoes of Ardèche.

Jaujac's built heritage is remarkable: the Château de Jaujac (15th-16th centuries), a restored private property, dominates the village with its imposing silhouette. The Romanesque church, the basalt stone alleys, and the old houses with lauze roofs form a coherent and preserved architectural ensemble. Less than two kilometers from the village is the Jaujac volcanic flow, a classified natural site, a remnant of volcanic activity that shaped this entire territory millennia ago. This exceptional geological site, accessible on foot from the village center, is one of the major attractions of the Monts d'Ardèche region.

Jaujac is a gateway to the Parc Naturel Régional des Monts d'Ardèche, a vast classified area covering over 210,000 hectares, protecting volcanic landscapes, remarkable biodiversity, and traditional know-how. The village is a few kilometers from Vals-les-Bains, a renowned spa town, and Thueyts, a hilltop village with spectacular volcanic landscapes. The Ardèche river, which originates in the nearby Tanargue massif, flows through the valley and invites hiking, fishing, and canoeing.

The Amicale Laïque de Jaujac: an association serving the village

The Amicale Laïque de Jaujac is a popular education association rooted in the republican and secular tradition. These associations, heirs to the social emancipation movements of the 19th century, play an essential role in the life of small French rural communities, organizing cultural, sporting, and festive events that maintain social cohesion and territorial vitality.

The flea market and car boot sale fair is one of the highlights of the Amicale Laïque de Jaujac's calendar. Its preparation involves many volunteers, and its holding is eagerly awaited each year by exhibitors—many of whom return from one edition to the next—and by regular visitors. The profits from organizing this event allow the association to finance its annual activities for the benefit of the village's families and children.

Practical advice for exhibitors and visitors

Exhibitors wishing to participate in the fair must book their spot in advance; registration is not open on-site on the day. Spots are offered at €10 for a 6-meter space, with a supplement of €3 for every additional 3 meters. This affordable rate allows participation by both individuals wanting to clear out their attics and professional dealers.

For visitors, entry is completely free. It is advisable to arrive early in the morning to find the best finds before the most sought-after items are snapped up. Bring cash for purchases from individual exhibitors. Catering and refreshments are available on-site. Parking is available near the Place du Champ de Mars.

Nearby: discover the volcanic Ardèche

The day of the flea market can be combined with exploring the exceptional territory surrounding Jaujac. The volcanic flow accessible on foot from the village is a must-see. The village of Thueyts and its famous Pont du Diable (Devil's Bridge) spanning the Ardèche are worth a visit. Vals-les-Bains offers its thermal springs and Belle Époque architecture. The road to Tanargue and the high plateaus rewards travelers with breathtaking panoramas of the Cévennes, the Alps, and, on a clear day, Mont Blanc. Antraigues-sur-Volane, a few kilometers away, is a hilltop village famous for its craft market and Provençal atmosphere. The Vallée de la Volane and the Vallée de la Fontaulière are full of waterfalls, hiking trails, and clear water swimming spots.
