The big May Day flea market on the Carrefour car park in L'Haÿ-les-Roses
There is something symbolic about hosting a large flea market on 1 May, the day of work and lily of the valley. In L'Haÿ-les-Roses, this coincidence has been embraced for several years by Brossier Organisation, which transforms the vast Carrefour car park on avenue du Général de Gaulle into a bustling second-hand market every May Day.
Between 100 and 200 private vendors fill the car park aisles from early morning to offer visitors a wide variety of goods: clothing, toys, decorative items, books, crockery, electronics, furniture and all manner of curiosities. The event stands out for its considerable size and its fairground atmosphere, drawing families, seasoned bargain hunters and curious visitors from across southern Île-de-France.
L'Haÿ-les-Roses is a Val-de-Marne commune of some 32,000 inhabitants, famous for housing the Roseraie du Val-de-Marne, one of the most remarkable rose gardens in the world with 3,200 varieties. Every spring, the town awakens under a floral explosion that echoes the finds at its May Day flea market.
