One of the largest flea markets in Northern France, 5 km of stands in the city center of Lisieux
The Grande Brocante de Lisieux is held every year on the third Sunday of November in the city center. Created in 1993 by Thierry Welsch of Société Kouny Organisation and since taken over by the association CapLisieux, this event brings together around 900 exhibitors, professionals and individuals, over nearly 5 kilometers of streets. From Place Mitterrand to Avenue Victor Hugo, via Place de la République, Rue Henri Chéron and Rue Pont Mortain, stalls invade the heart of the city of Lisieux from 5 am. Free entry. It is one of the major flea market events in Northern France, after Lille and Amiens.
Since 1993, the Grande Brocante de Lisieux has established itself as one of the unmissable events in the world of flea markets and antiques in Northern France. Every third Sunday of November, the city center of Lisieux transforms into a huge open-air market, attracting thousands of visitors from all over France, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.
With around 900 exhibitors, professionals and individuals, the Grande Brocante de Lisieux deploys its stands over nearly 5 kilometers in the streets of the city center. Place Mitterrand, Place de la République, Rue Henri Chéron, Avenue Victor Hugo, Rue Pont Mortain, Rue des Mathurins, and Rue du Moulin à Tan host this tide of stalls offering a considerable selection of antique furniture, vintage furniture, trinkets, toys, books, vinyl records, collectibles, tools, and clothing.
One of the charms of this event is its early start. From 5 am, the most discerning bargain hunters roam the aisles by flashlight, searching for rare items before the crowds arrive. At least 2,000 people are already present by 5:30 am. The nocturnal and then morning atmosphere, with the first light of day illuminating the stands, creates a unique, almost surreal ambiance.
Initially created by Thierry Welsch of Société Kouny Organisation, the Grande Brocante is now run by the association CapLisieux, a union of the city's shopkeepers, artisans, and professionals. Some exhibitors have been returning faithfully since the very first edition, demonstrating their attachment to this event that punctuates the autumn calendar of Lisieux and all of Normandy.
Lisieux, a sub-prefecture of Calvados and the capital of the Pays d'Auge, offers an ideal setting for this grand flea market. The city of Sainte-Thérèse, the second most visited pilgrimage site in France, combines religious heritage, Norman architecture, and commercial dynamism. The flea market is part of the tradition of large fairs that have always animated this market town at the crossroads of Calvados routes.
