Annual major flea market of the festival committee at May-en-Multien stadium, in the Multien region
Each year in May, May-en-Multien hosts its major flea market at the communal stadium on Sente de Tresmes. This popular event, run by the festival committee and local associations, attracts bargain hunters and visitors from across the Lizy-sur-Ourcq canton and beyond. With some 200 exhibitors spread across the lawns and stadium surroundings, it ranks among the most important flea market events in northern Seine-et-Marne. The early opening from 7 am lets early risers discover the best pieces before the Sunday crowds.
The stadium-flea market format offers a spacious, comfortable setting where exhibitors can easily lay out their treasures: antique furniture, crockery, household linens, toys, vinyls, books, tools, vintage clothing, curios and decorative objects. The diversity of stalls, where private sellers clearing attics and cellars mingle with small dealers and second-hand professionals, ensures every visitor can find treasures matching their interests. On-site catering run by volunteers extends the day in a friendly atmosphere.
This major flea market is organised by the May-en-Multien festival committee, a volunteer group that animates village life all year round. Funds raised help finance communal events, patron saint celebrations and cultural activities that enliven this small rural territory. Buying or exhibiting at the flea market is thus also a way of supporting local community life and helping preserve these gatherings that bind the village community together.
Nestled on the Multien plateau, an agricultural region of northern Seine-et-Marne bordering Picardy, May-en-Multien is a rural commune that has preserved its authentic character. Grain fields, stone farms and woodlands alternate in a landscape shaped by centuries of agriculture. The old church, picturesque hamlets and country paths offer visitors a concentrated taste of Brie rurality, to discover on a walk before or after the flea market. The village is easily accessible from Meaux, Lizy-sur-Ourcq and the Francilienne ring road.
Bargain hunters wishing to enrich their getaway will find many attractions in the area: the Ourcq canal and its locks, Lizy-sur-Ourcq and its market, La Ferté-Milon with the medieval castle of Louis d'Orléans and its Racinian memories, or Meaux, its Gothic cathedral and Great War Museum. Nature lovers can explore the Montceaux forest massif and the Petit Morin valleys, in a region still preserved from mass tourism.
The grand flea market is held at the May-en-Multien stadium, Sente de Tresmes (77145), on a Sunday in May. Hours: 7 am to 6 pm. About 200 exhibitors. Free admission for visitors. On-site catering, parking nearby. Information from the May-en-Multien festival committee.
