The winter street sale, a Pontarlier tradition for over ten years

Each early February, the center of Pontarlier comes alive to the rhythm of its grand Winter Street Sale. Organized by Commerce Pontarlier Centre, this event, established for over a decade, brings together downtown merchants who set up their items and display their merchandise in front of their shops – or inside depending on weather conditions – to offer particularly attractive prices on autumn-winter collections.

A complement to winter sales

The Pontarlier Winter Street Sale is the highlight of the winter sales, allowing downtown shops to clear their seasonal stocks and customers to benefit from substantial discounts. The event, which takes place over two days (February 6 and 7, 2026), attracts residents of Pontarlier and the surrounding Haut-Doubs region, as well as customers from neighboring Switzerland, who are accustomed to crossing the border to shop.

A lively city center in the middle of winter

Pontarlier, the capital of Haut-Doubs at an altitude of 838 meters, experiences harsh winters typical of the Jura massif. The Winter Street Sale helps maintain sustained commercial activity during the cold season and fosters loyalty among local and cross-border customers. For new shops in the city center, it's also the ideal opportunity to gain visibility with a wide audience.
