The great spring rendez-vous for bargain hunters on Place du Marché Neuf, over 180 exhibitors
The Grand Flea Market of the Marché Neuf is one of the must-attend events for bargain hunters in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Held at Place du Marché Neuf, in the very heart of the royal town, it brings together over 180 private exhibitors every spring, emptying attics, cellars and wardrobes. Second-hand clothing, vintage toys, books, crockery, knick-knacks and small curiosities make up a varied and affordable offering. In the historic setting of the former city of the kings of France, this event combines bargain-hunting pleasure with a cultural stroll.
Every spring, the Place du Marché Neuf in Saint-Germain-en-Laye transforms into a vast bargain-hunting ground. Over 180 private exhibitors set up early in the morning to offer visitors the fruits of their spring cleaning: clothing, toys, books, crockery, small furniture, knick-knacks and miscellaneous items at unbeatable prices. This Grand flea market has established itself over the years as one of the most important events in the town and in western Paris, drawing a large crowd from opening time until late afternoon.
The choice of Place du Marché Neuf is not incidental: lined with terraces, shops and restaurants, this lively square is one of the vibrant centres of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Its generous size allows the 180 or so stalls to be accommodated in good conditions, while surrounding cafes offer welcome breaks to bargain hunters. The atmosphere is particularly friendly, typical of large city-centre events, with a family and curious audience who come as much to find bargains as to enjoy the market's atmosphere.
With over 180 exclusively private exhibitors, the offering is extremely varied. You will mainly find second-hand clothing for the whole family, toys (from plush to retro video games), books, DVDs and CDs, crockery, small decor, baby equipment, bags, costume jewelry, tools, sports gear and some more unexpected items: occasional furniture, bikes, appliances. Hunting for the rare find, the elusive vinyl or the vintage toy is a game collectors and vintage lovers happily play.
Saint-Germain-en-Laye is one of the most prestigious towns in the Yvelines. Former residence of the kings of France, it preserves the Château-Vieux which today houses the National Museum of Archaeology, one of the richest in France. The Grande Terrasse designed by Le Nôtre offers a breathtaking view of the Seine and Paris. The town, birthplace of Claude Debussy, is also known for its gourmet markets, luxury boutiques and refined art of living. Combining a visit to the Grand flea market with a walk at the castle and in the state forest makes for an ideal family outing.
This Grand flea market is often organised in partnership with the Place du Marché Neuf merchants' association and with the support of the City of Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Surrounding shops take advantage of the crowds to offer special deals, while restaurants and terraces are fully booked from noon onwards. It is therefore also a high point for local commerce and for city centre animation.
Saint-Germain-en-Laye is served by RER A (terminus Saint-Germain-en-Laye) from Paris and La Défense, as well as Transilien line L (Saint-Germain-Grande-Ceinture station). By car, the A14 and A13 provide rapid access. Admission to the flea market is free. Arrive early to enjoy the best choice and avoid the heavy mid-morning crowds.

Benefiting from mild spring weather, the family audience came in large numbers, wandering from stall to stall, willingly stopping at the terraces of surrounding cafes.
