Every summer, the Val d'Argent neighbourhood takes on the air of a great second-hand market. Along several hundred metres of Boulevard du Général Leclerc, stallholders set up from dawn to offer their accumulated treasures: clothing of all sizes, childhood toys, books and comics, crockery and tableware, small pieces of furniture, tools, vinyl records and all manner of knick-knacks. Admission is completely free, and the neighbourhood's friendly setting makes this a genuine family sharing occasion.
Val d'Argent is one of Argenteuil's iconic residential neighbourhoods — a city of 115,000 inhabitants stretching along the Seine some ten kilometres north-west of Paris. The giant yard sale has become an eagerly awaited event, bringing residents together in a spirit of conviviality and reuse. On-site catering and refreshment stands allow visitors to spend the whole day browsing the stalls.
The event takes place in June each year along Boulevard du Général Leclerc. Free admission. Accessible by RER C or Transilien H from Paris (Argenteuil station).
