Summer garage sale in the heart of a character village on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest
Every year in June, the small village of Recloses organizes its annual garage sale, a gathering that brings together the villagers and attracts visitors coming to enjoy a morning of bargain hunting in an exceptional setting. Located on rue des écoles, the event offers a typical rural garage sale selection: clothing, toys, books, tableware, tools, furniture, trinkets, and decorative objects carefully laid out by private individuals clearing their attics and cellars. The friendly village atmosphere makes it an authentic experience far from large urban flea markets.
Recloses is a picturesque village in Seine-et-Marne, located in the south of the department in the immediate vicinity of the Fontainebleau forest. Its name reportedly comes from the Latin reclusus, referring to an ancient medieval enclosure. The village has retained an authentic rural character, with its stone houses, its old church, and its privileged natural setting. Recloses belongs to the Gâtinais Français Regional Natural Park and is one of the preserved Bellifontain villages that offer a total change of scenery less than an hour from Paris.
For a small village like Recloses, the annual garage sale represents a highlight of social and community life. It is an opportunity for residents to meet, for newcomers to get to know their neighbors, and for visitors to discover village hospitality. The conviviality of the gathering is reinforced by the small size of the village, which allows everyone to fully enjoy the atmosphere without the crowds of large urban events.
One of the major assets of the Recloses Garage Sale is its exceptional geographical location. After morning bargain hunting, visitors can easily extend their day with a walk in the Fontainebleau forest, world-famous for its sandstone landscapes, rocky chaos, and hiking trails. Emblematic sites such as the Franchard gorges, the Apremont gorges, or the Mare aux Evées are accessible a few minutes by car. Climbing enthusiasts will also appreciate the many sandstone boulders that make Fontainebleau's international reputation.
Beyond the village and the forest, the region offers many other discoveries. Fontainebleau and its royal palace listed by UNESCO, Barbizon and its museum of pre-impressionist painters, Moret-sur-Loing and its views painted by Sisley, Nemours and its Prehistory Museum: so many cultural stops that ideally complement a day in Recloses. The Gâtinais Français Regional Natural Park also offers many hiking and cycling opportunities and local product discoveries.
The Recloses Garage Sale takes place on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at 1 rue des écoles. Admission is free for visitors. Access by car from Paris via the A6 (about 1 hour) or from Fontainebleau by RD.
