Garage sale in the tiny village of Lapeyre, near Trie-sur-Baise in Bigorre
Lapeyre is one of the smallest communes in the Hautes-Pyrenees, with fewer than 90 inhabitants spread over 3.6 km2. Located just 3 km from Trie-sur-Baise — famous for its pig festival and medieval market — and 24 km as the crow flies from Tarbes, Lapeyre is part of the Pays de Trie et Magnoac community of communes encompassing 50 communes. This village of the former county of Bigorre has preserved all its rural Gascon authenticity.
The Lapeyre garage sale stands out for its intimate atmosphere. No crowds or endless queues here: exhibitors set up their stalls in the village center and visitors take time to browse, chat and negotiate in peace. Antique dishes, farm tools, embroidered household linen, vintage toys and all manner of ornaments make up the bulk of the finds.
Attending the Lapeyre garage sale also means discovering a little piece of authentic Bigorre. Stone houses with slate roofs, flowering gardens and the silence of the Gascon countryside create an ideal backdrop for a morning of browsing. After shopping, visitors can extend their day by heading to Trie-sur-Baise, a 13th-century bastide listed among the remarkable sites of Occitanie.
