Bargain hunting and bread-baking tradition in Parthenaisais
Every late May, the commune of Gourgé, nestled in the Parthenaisais area, comes alive with its garage sale and bread festival. This dual event, supported by local associations, has become one of the spring highlights in northern Deux-Sèvres, skillfully blending the passion for bargain hunting with the rediscovery of ancestral bread-making skills.
The Gourgé garage sale brings together dozens of private exhibitors offering their everyday objects: clothing, toys, books, crockery, small furniture, and ornaments. Bargain hunters appreciate the friendly atmosphere of this village event.
Alongside the garage sale, the bread festival honors local bread-making tradition. Batches of bread are baked in a traditional wood-fired oven, as visitors watch the kneading, shaping, and baking. Fouées, tourtons, and other local specialties complete this gourmet offering.
The combination of garage sale and bread festival makes this a complete event. Children enjoy browsing toy stalls and discovering the bread oven, while adults combine bargain hunting with tasting. Refreshments and grilled food complete a festive offering.
