Traditional fair over 400 years old with flea market, fireworks, and mass in the Sainte-Chapelle
The Foire de la Saint-Louis in Champigny-sur-Veude is one of the oldest fairs in Touraine. For over four centuries, on August 25th, Saint Louis's day, the village comes alive with a fair that combines flea market, car boot sale, funfair, and festive entertainment. Many exhibitors — antique dealers and individuals — offer furniture, trinkets, tableware, antique objects, and curiosities in the village streets. The day begins with a mass in the Sainte-Chapelle, dedicated to Saint Louis, which is the only service of the year in this Renaissance jewel.
Champigny-sur-Veude is a village of about 900 inhabitants located south of Indre-et-Loire. It owes its fame to its Sainte-Chapelle, a 16th-century Renaissance building miraculously preserved from the destruction ordered by Richelieu. Its exceptional stained glass windows recount the history of the Bourbon family. The castle ruins, the imposing outbuildings, and the park form a remarkable heritage ensemble that serves as a backdrop for the ancestral Foire de la Saint-Louis.
On the program for this exceptional day: street shows, circus initiation, carriage rides, local producers' market, and catering stands. The funfair delights children. Spectacular fireworks launched from the castle conclude this festive day in an unforgettable atmosphere.
