Grand spring fair with flea market, artisans, and regional products at Espace Monet Rollinat
The Foire de Printemps de Fresselines is held every May at the Espace Monet Rollinat, a venue for contemporary exhibitions and creation located in this village that inspired Claude Monet in 1889. Organized by the Comité des Fêtes de Fresselines, this event brings together 50 to 100 exhibitors, including flea market professionals, individuals selling their second-hand items, and artisans presenting their creations and regional products.
Perched above the confluence of the Petite Creuse and the Grande Creuse, Fresselines holds a unique place in art history. In 1889, Claude Monet, invited by the poet-musician Maurice Rollinat, created 23 paintings there, including the famous "Eaux Semblantes" series. The village preserves the memory of this encounter between Impressionism and poetry within the Espace Monet Rollinat, which hosts exhibitions and artist residencies.
Beyond the flea market and car boot sale, the spring fair showcases the artisanal know-how and local products from the Creuse and Pays dunois regions. Potters, ceramists, jewelry designers, honey producers, jam makers, and cheese makers exhibit their specialties. The plant fair, a spring tradition, also attracts amateur gardeners looking for vegetable plants, flowers, and shrubs.
Visitors to the fair can extend their day with a walk along the paths overlooking the Creuse valley, a classified picturesque site. The viewpoints over the confluence of the two Creuse rivers, which Monet immortalized in his canvases, offer spectacular panoramas, between granite cliffs, meanders, and oak forests.
