This artisanal, rural, and gourmet fair brings together about 100 exhibitors: flea market dealers, artisans, local producers, and various vendors offer their goods in the village streets. Admission is free, there are many activities, and catering is provided on-site. A beautiful popular festival in the heart of the Cathar Lauragais.
Every August, the village of Fanjeaux vibrates to the rhythm of its annual fair, a festive and popular event that brings together about 100 exhibitors in the streets and squares of the medieval village. This artisanal, rural, and gourmet fair hosts flea market dealers, local artisan creators, local producers, and vendors of regional products in a warm summer atmosphere.
The Foire de Fanjeaux offers a triple offering: a flea market and car boot sale with second-hand items of all kinds, an artisanal market with creations from local producers and artisans, and a gourmet market with specialties from the Aude and Lauragais region. This diversity makes it an event accessible to all audiences. Free shows and activities complete the program.
Fanjeaux (11270) is a hilltop village in the Lauragais region, in the Aude department, halfway between Carcassonne and Mirepoix. This village of about 900 inhabitants is famous for its role in the history of Catharism: it was here that Saint Dominic preached against the Cathar heresy at the beginning of the 13th century, before founding the Dominican order. The village overlooks the Lauragais plain from a hill, offering exceptional panoramas of the Pyrenees and the Corbières.
The fair offers on-site catering with local specialties, allowing visitors to spend a full day in Fanjeaux. Parking is organized on the outskirts of the village. Admission is free for visitors, in the tradition of popular rural fairs in the South.
The fair is held from approximately 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact the Fanjeaux town hall or the tourist offices of Carcassonnais.
