Every early April, individuals and occasional sellers offer their items in a remarkable historic setting, between the meanders of the Seine and the memories of the splendor of the Norman Renaissance.
Every early April, the town of Gaillon hosts its annual Foire à tout. Individuals and occasional sellers unpack their belongings in the streets of this small Norman town on the banks of the Seine, for a day of popular and friendly sales at the dawn of spring.
Gaillon is a commune of some 7,000 inhabitants located in the loop of the Seine, halfway between Vernon and Les Andelys. The town is famous for the remains of its Renaissance castle, one of the first Renaissance-style buildings in France, commissioned from 1502 by Cardinal Georges d'Amboise, Archbishop of Rouen and chief minister to Louis XII. Although the castle was largely demolished during the Revolution and the Empire, the preserved remains—entrance gate, chapel, outbuildings—testify to the past splendor of this princely residence which hosted Charles VIII, Louis XII, and Francis I.
This exceptional historical heritage gives Gaillon a strong identity and a special atmosphere, which benefits from popular events like the Foire à tout.
The Foire à tout de Gaillon is part of a region particularly active in terms of flea markets. The Seine valley between Vernon and Les Andelys indeed has several towns that regularly organize similar events. Gaillon stands out for the beauty of its site, between the river and the limestone hills, and for the accessibility of its town center from major roads.
The Foire à tout de Gaillon will be held on Sunday, April 5, 2026. This early April, with the return of spring on the banks of the Seine, is the ideal opportunity for a stroll and a treasure hunt in this historically rich town.
