The great flea market in the iconic livestock trading hall of Deux-Sèvres
The flea market at the Livestock Market of Parthenay takes over the halls and parking of the famous animal trading site along rue du Président Salvador Allende. Private sellers and bargain hunters meet here several times a year to unearth furniture, trinkets, crockery and everyday objects in a convivial and authentically rural atmosphere. A must-visit for bargain lovers in the Gâtine region.
The Parthenay Livestock Market is a centuries-old institution of agricultural trade in west-central France. Every year, its vast halls and parking area host several flea markets that take advantage of this covered and open space, ideal for displaying all kinds of merchandise. The atmosphere is warm, blending the spirit of traditional rural fairs with the passion for bargain hunting.
Exhibitors, mainly private individuals, offer a wide range of items: antique crockery, trinkets, books, clothing, toys, small furniture, garden tools and curiosities of all kinds. A few professional dealers complement the offer with more sought-after pieces: rustic Poitevin furniture, regional faience and collectibles. Exhibitor rates are 3 euros per linear meter for non-food items and 4 euros for food items, with no prior reservation required.
Parthenay is a city of art and history whose medieval citadel, ramparts and rue de la Vaux-Saint-Jacques, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Way of Saint James, attract many visitors each year. The city is also known for its International Game Festival and its livestock market, one of the largest in France. Browsing the livestock market flea market is also an opportunity to stroll through the picturesque lanes of this characterful city.
The Livestock Market site is located at 17 rue du Président Salvador Allende, on the outskirts of town. Free parking is available on site. Admission is free for visitors. Bring change to facilitate transactions with exhibitors and don't hesitate to bargain — it's a flea market tradition!
