About Puycelsi Medieval Festival

Perched on its rocky spur overlooking the Grésigne forest, Puycelsi celebrates its medieval heritage with a great village festival and flea market on Saturday 22 August 2026. Costumed animations, medieval camp and brocante in one of France's most beautiful villages, in the Tarn.

An event in one of France's most beautiful villages

Puycelsi, labelled "Plus Beaux Villages de France", is a medieval citadel set on a rocky spur overlooking the Vère valley and the Grésigne forest. Its 800m of ramparts, 14th-15th century stone houses and panoramic walkways make it one of the most photographed villages of the department. Each summer, the comité des fêtes organises a village festival with medieval flair, complemented by a flea market and brocante.

A journey to the age of knights

The bastide is dressed with banners, streets filled with troubadours, jugglers and stilt-walkers. Medieval crafts workshops (forging, calligraphy, herbalism, medieval cooking) introduce all ages to the gestures of old. A medieval camp recreates 14th-century fortress life: fencing, archery, combat demonstrations, armoured parades. An evening medieval banquet extends the festival.

The flea market alongside the festival

In the morning and part of the afternoon, a flea market/brocante is held at the salle des fêtes and in certain areas of the bastide. Villagers and neighbours offer curios, old books, crockery, linen, toys, small furniture. A few dealers bring more professional touches. A unique mix of medieval atmosphere and bargain hunting.

A postcard setting

Saint-Corneille church, the panoramic walkway, viewpoints over Grésigne, flower-lined lanes: the whole village invites a visit. Village restaurants offer renowned Tarn cuisine. Nearby: Gaillac vineyards, Cordes-sur-Ciel bastide and Vère gorges.
