The Airvault Easter Fair: Tradition and Bargain Hunting in the Thouarsais

Every Easter Monday, the small medieval town of Airvault hosts its traditional Easter Fair, combining a commercial fair, flea market, and outdoor entertainment on the magnificent Place des Promenades. This popular event, supported by the USA FAT Basket association, attracts hundreds of visitors from across northern Deux-Sèvres and neighboring departments.

A Lively Flea Market on the Place des Promenades

The flea market is the heart of the event. From 6 AM, private sellers set up on Place des Promenades offering clothing, toys, dishes, books, ornaments, and everyday objects. Stand prices are set at 1 euro per linear meter, payable on site, with shaded spaces available. A free coffee per stand warms up early risers. The market runs until 6 PM in a relaxed family atmosphere.

A Weekend of Celebration in Airvault

The Easter Fair actually spans three days, from Saturday to Easter Monday. Rides and bumper cars are available all weekend for children. Sunday features a pétanque competition and a late afternoon concert. Monday, the highlight, combines the flea market, musical entertainment including the Odyssée show at 5 PM and a parade by TAC OTAC company, a football tournament, circus workshops at 2 PM, and pony rides for younger children.

Airvault, a Remarkable Heritage Setting

Airvault is a character town well worth visiting beyond its fair. Its Saint-Pierre abbey church, a jewel of Poitevin Romanesque art, its medieval bridge over the Thouet, and its picturesque lanes make it one of the most charming small towns in the department.
