Bargain hunting facing the Mediterranean for the Easter weekend on the Côte Vermeille
Banyuls-sur-Mer, the last French commune on the Côte Vermeille before the Spanish border, hosts its traditional Easter car boot sale from Saturday April 4 to Monday April 6, 2026. Nestled between the terraced vineyards that descend to the Mediterranean and the historic port, this small Catalan town of 4,600 inhabitants offers a unique setting in France for open-air bargain hunting. The event takes place on the seafront, facing the colorful fishing boats and schist walls that gave birth to the illustrious Banyuls sweet wine.
Taking advantage of the Easter weekend, the event attracts Banyulencs, residents of the Côte Vermeille (Collioure, Port-Vendres, Cerbère) and tourists arriving early for the season. The atmosphere mixes Catalan art of living, artistic heritage — Banyuls is the birthplace of sculptor Aristide Maillol — and the spectacular landscapes where vines, cultivated here for 2,500 years, face the sea.
Visitors can extend their day by discovering the Banyuls Grand Cru wineries, one of the most prestigious French sweet wines produced on 1,600 hectares of designation. Art lovers will visit the Maillol Farmhouse, former home of the sculptor, while nature enthusiasts will appreciate the marine reserve and coastal paths.
