Traditional Johrmarik in Dorlisheim: grand street sale and flea market in the village streets, near Molsheim
The Dorlisheim Johrmarik is the traditional annual market of this wine-growing village located at the gates of Molsheim. Jointly organised by the Vélo Club Espérance and the Dorlisheim table tennis club, this event combines a grand street sale by traders with a flea market by private sellers in the village streets. On the Grand'Rue and adjacent streets, around a hundred traders and exhibitors offer clothing, accessories, local craft products, trinkets, toys, books, crockery and bargain finds. Musical entertainment, a refreshment stand and catering complete this festive day that has been part of Dorlisheim's traditions for decades.
The Johrmarik (literally 'market of the year' in Alsatian dialect) is an ancestral tradition in Dorlisheim. Each year in June, the village streets transform into a vast open-air market combining a grand street sale by itinerant and local traders with a flea market by private sellers. The event is organised by the Vélo Club Espérance and the Dorlisheim table tennis club, two sports associations that mobilise their volunteers to enliven the village and fund their activities.
On the Grand'Rue and adjacent streets, around a hundred traders and exhibitors set up their stalls. Itinerant traders offer clothing, leather goods, costume jewellery, regional products, decorative items and culinary specialities. Private sellers, meanwhile, display second-hand clothing, toys, books, trinkets, crockery, vinyl records, small furniture and a thousand other treasures at low prices. Musical entertainment punctuates the day on the village square, while the refreshment stand and catering — tartes flambées, grills, chips and Alsatian specialities — attract hungry visitors.
Dorlisheim is a village of around 2,800 inhabitants located in the wine-growing plain at the exit of Molsheim, at the foot of the Vosges foothills. The village is crossed by the Bruche river and enjoys a privileged location between vineyards, orchards and wooded hills. Dorlisheim is known for its historical heritage, its church and its dynamic associative life. The Johrmarik is one of the commune's unmissable events and each year brings together residents and visitors from the surrounding area in a festive and convivial atmosphere.
