The great rendezvous for Tarn antique dealers
A true Castres institution, the Dimanche de la Brocante is held several times a year on Place Jean-Jaurès, in the heart of the historic center. Around forty professional antique dealers and brocanteurs from across the Tarn and the South West set up their stalls: antique furniture, paintings, books, crockery, vintage items, and curiosities. A high-quality event much loved by collectors and lovers of the art of living.
The Brocante Sunday is one of the oldest bargain-hunting events in the Tarn. Organized by the City of Castres on several Sundays a year, it turns Place Jean-Jaurès — the beating heart of the Tarn sub-prefecture — into a vast treasure market for the day. Over the years, the event has gained a real regional dimension, drawing exhibitors and visitors from the entire Toulouse arc, the Lauragais, the Lacaune Mountains, and the Montagne Noire.
The central square of Castres, lined with Toulouse brick facades, cafés, and shops, offers the brocante an ideal setting. Just a few steps away, the corbelled houses reflected in the Agout and the 18th-century mansions recall the richness of Castres' heritage. The event is often extended by a walk along the quays or a visit to the Goya Museum.
Unlike private flea markets, the Brocante Sunday mainly brings together professional antique dealers. You will find: antique and vintage furniture, lighting, clockwork, paintings and engravings, silverware, porcelain and faience, antique books, old papers, retro clothing, vinyl records, antique toys, antique jewelry, and curiosities of all kinds. The quality of the pieces and the variety of styles — from rustic country to mid-century — make it a must for demanding hunters and decorators.
The event takes place in a quiet, personal atmosphere, ideal for talking with exhibitors. Prices remain negotiable, especially at the end of the day. Arrive early for the calm and the most beautiful pieces. Combine the brocante with a visit of the old center — houses over the Agout, Saint-Benoît Cathedral, Bishop's Garden.
