Formerly named simply “Saint-Julien” until 2005, Saint-Julien-sur-Garonne is a village of 550 inhabitants nestled on the banks of the Garonne, 8 km southwest of Carbonne. The commune, awarded the label “Village of the Future”, has a rich historical past: under the Ancien Régime, its castle was the seat of a castellany of the counts of Comminges in Guyenne, whose authority extended over several neighboring lordships, notably Saint-Élix, Saint-Cizi, Gensac, and Tersac.
