Every May 1st, the parking lot of rue Olivier de Pierrebourg in Guéret hosts the Car boot sale of the Reunion Islanders of Creuse, an event that goes beyond a simple flea market to become a moment of sharing and solidarity. Organized by the association of the Reunion Islanders of Creuse, this car boot sale reserved for individuals (excluding professionals) brings together the residents of the neighborhood and bargain hunters from all over the city in a friendly and mixed atmosphere.

The Reunion Islanders of Creuse: a little-known history

The association of the Reunion Islanders of Creuse perpetuates the memory of a painful episode in French history. Between 1963 and 1982, more than 2,000 Reunion children, often from modest families, were moved to rural departments in mainland France, including Creuse. Torn from their native island, these "children of Creuse" were placed in foster families or children's homes, losing their bearings, their language, and their family ties. The association works for the recognition of this history and the maintenance of the link between the members of this community.
