September car boot sale organised by the festival committee at the Aumonerie of Montfort-sur-Meu, a small town of Brocéliande
The Montfort-sur-Meu festival committee organises a car boot sale every September at the Aumonerie, a historic site in the heart of the medieval town. Private exhibitors offer clothes, toys, books, trinkets, crockery, small furniture, vinyl records and various flea market items. The exceptional heritage setting of Montfort — between the Tour du Papegaut and the banks of the Meu river — gives this car boot sale a unique atmosphere, highly appreciated by bargain hunters from the Pays de Brocéliande.
Montfort-sur-Meu, a Petite Cité de Caractère, is a commune of 7,500 inhabitants built at the confluence of the Meu and the Garun rivers. Its medieval heritage is remarkable: remains of the Château des Barons de Montfort, the famous Tour du Papegaut (14th century), half-timbered houses on Rue de la Saulnerie, and the church dedicated to Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort, a native of the town. The Aumonerie, a former hospital building, is now a cultural and community space that hosts exhibitions, shows, and municipal events.
The September car boot sale in Montfort-sur-Meu marks the start of bargain hunting season in the Pays de Brocéliande. After shopping, visitors can stroll through the medieval streets or walk along the Meu river to the paper mill. The refreshment stand offers galettes-saucisses and crêpes. Entry is free.
