Every year in June, the village of Montégut-Lauragais organizes a car boot sale in its streets. From 7 am to 6 pm, private sellers set up their stalls to offer visitors a variety of second-hand items: clothes, toys, crockery, trinkets, books, and various objects. The atmosphere is that of an authentic Lauragais country car boot sale.
Montégut-Lauragais is a village of 423 inhabitants (the Montégutois) located in the heart of the Lauragais, 18 km northwest of Castelnaudary. The commune covers 7.7 km² in a hilly landscape of cereal hills. The village is particularly known for housing Explorarôme Asquali, a scent manufacturer that offers an aromatic garden, exhibitions, and tours of its perfume extraction laboratory, attracting visitors curious to discover the secrets of olfaction.
Montégut-Lauragais is part of the community of communes Lauragais Revel Sorézois. Surrounded by the communes of Nogaret, Saint-Julia, and Roumens, the village is part of this historic terroir nicknamed the "granary of Toulouse" for the richness of its cereal crops.
