Every August, the fortified town of Mauvezin (32120) hosts its summer car boot sale under the hall and arcades of the central square. Private exhibitors set up in this covered area and around the square from 8 am to 6 pm, offering tableware, trinkets, clothes, toys, books, tools, and everyday items. Organized by the Mauvezin Tourist Office, this event attracts treasure hunters from the Lomagne region and holidaymakers passing through the Gers.
Mauvezin is a fortified town in Lomagne dominated by an imposing 14th-century Gascon castle, one of the best-preserved in the Gers. This fortress, which was the fief of the famous Gaston Fébus, Count of Foix, offers a panoramic view of the Lomagne hills and the Pyrenees on a clear day. The fortified town retains its central arcaded square, its traditional hall, and its medieval streets lined with stone and half-timbered houses. Mauvezin is a lively market town, with shops and services, animating life in this eastern part of the Gers.
The Mauvezin hall offers welcome shelter during the hot August days. The arcades surrounding the square extend this covered area, allowing visitors to hunt for treasures in the shade while enjoying the lively atmosphere of the fortified town. The fee for exhibitors is €2 per linear meter, and entry is free for visitors. The shops and restaurants on the square welcome treasure hunters for a coffee or a Gascon lunch between finds.
Mauvezin is at the heart of the Gersoise Lomagne, this region of rolling hills, sunflower fields, and medieval fortified towns stretching between Auch, Lectoure, and Beaumont-de-Lomagne. Lomagne is renowned for its architectural heritage, its gastronomy (white garlic, foie gras, armagnac), and its preserved rural way of life. The Mauvezin car boot sale is part of this tradition of conviviality and sharing that characterizes Gascon village festivals.
