July 14th car boot sale organized by the AET at the Gauje lock, on the banks of the Baïse in Condom
On July 14th, the AET (Union of Territorial Employees) organizes its annual car boot sale at the Gauje lock, a bucolic site on the banks of the Baïse in Condom (32100). Twenty-five private sellers offer flea market items, crockery, clothes, and trinkets in a green setting, between the historic lock and shaded banks. A festive and rural event that is part of the July 14th celebrations of the capital of Armagnac.
Every July 14th, the AET (Union of Territorial Employees) of Condom organizes its annual car boot sale in an exceptional setting: the Gauje lock, a picturesque site nestled on the banks of the Baïse. Twenty-five private sellers set up along the lock to offer everyday items, crockery, trinkets, clothes, toys, and small furniture. The event benefits from the festive atmosphere of the national holiday, with the shaded riverbanks as a backdrop.
The Gauje lock is one of the structures that mark the Baïse, a river made navigable in the 18th century to allow the transport of Armagnac by barge to the Garonne and then to Bordeaux. This lock system made Condom prosperous, transforming the Baïse into a "silver river". Today, the Gauje site retains its bucolic charm: the lock, the banks lined with plane trees, and the surrounding Gascon countryside offer an ideal setting for an outdoor car boot sale.
The AET of Condom brings together territorial agents from the municipality and the inter-municipal community through friendly and supportive actions. The July 14th car boot sale is their flagship event, bringing together sellers and visitors in a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere. The profits contribute to the financing of the union's activities throughout the year. The organization is well-established: setup starts in the morning, with refreshments and light catering available on-site, and musical entertainment to accompany the day.
The car boot sale is part of the full program of July 14th festivities in Condom: parade, entertainment, concert, and fireworks in the evening. Visitors can thus combine morning treasure hunting at the Gauje lock with the national holiday celebrations in the historic center of the episcopal city. Condom, a sub-prefecture of the Gers region and the capital of Ténarèze, offers its visitors remarkable architectural heritage, generous gastronomy, and the Gascon art of living at its best.
