Nestled on the Mézenc plateau at over 1,000 meters altitude, Fay-sur-Lignon is a commune in the Haut-Lignon region known for its volcanic and forest landscapes. Every 1st Saturday of September, this characterful village regains its late-summer buzz with the back-to-school car boot sale, organized by the Association La Caravelle.

An outdoor car boot sale on two squares

The event takes over two emblematic areas of the village: the Place du Foirail, historically dedicated to cattle markets, and the Place de la Croix, in the heart of the village. These two squares welcome private and professional exhibitors from 7 am, for a day of treasure hunting that lasts until 5 pm. Sellers are welcomed from 6 am with a free coffee, and setup is on a first-come, first-served basis at a rate of €2 per linear meter.

Friendly atmosphere and entertainment

La Caravelle ensures that each edition is a moment of celebration as much as a flea market. Refreshments and food stalls are available all day to satisfy visitors and exhibitors. A tombola, gift baskets, and musical entertainment — notably with the group Tambarytonbour — punctuate the afternoon. The warm atmosphere typical of village car boot sales in Haute-Loire makes this event popular with both locals and tourists passing through at the end of the season.

It reflects the associative dynamism of the village and La Caravelle's ability to mobilize residents and volunteers. In 2024, the event brought together 132 exhibitors, a sign of constant vitality.
