Car boot sale of the Comité des Fêtes — Champéon (53640), May
Each May, the village of Champéon (53640) hosts an event that far exceeds the scale of a rural commune: its Car boot sale, organized by the Comité des Fêtes, attracts around 450 exhibitors, placing this event among the most important in northern Mayenne.
Champéon is a village in the Pays d'Ernée, in northeastern Mayenne, at the crossroads of the Mayenne and Norman bocages. Despite its modest population, the dynamism of its Comité des Fêtes allows it to organize a remarkably large car boot sale each year, which justifies the trip from Ernée, Laval, Fougères, and even Alençon.
With 450 exhibitors, the Champéon Car boot sale offers a richness and diversity of goods that few rural events can match. Individuals from the village and surrounding communes rub shoulders with exhibitors from further afield, attracted by the event's reputation. You can find furniture, tableware and table arts, clothing of all sizes, books and magazines, toys and games, vinyl records and CDs, tools and equipment, old agricultural objects, trinkets, and flea market finds of all kinds.
The organization by the Comité des Fêtes de Champéon is well-honed and efficient: welcoming exhibitors, traffic management, on-site catering, entertainment... Everything is designed to ensure the day proceeds with the good humor and conviviality that characterize Mayenne village festivals. The car boot sale has become, over the years, the flagship event of the commune's festive calendar.
