About Car boot sale Barbentane

The Barbentane Car Boot Sale is an annual event organized by the APE Les Moulins in the Place du Marché of this Provençal village nestled at the confluence of the Rhône and the Durance. Every spring, individuals and families take over the square to offer bargain hunters a wide variety of items at low prices. The proceeds from the event are donated to the pupils of the Les Moulins school. Barbentane, dominated by the majestic 14th-century Anglica Tower and housing the castle nicknamed the "Little Trianon of Provence", offers a remarkable heritage setting for a friendly day of treasure hunting in the heart of the Bouches-du-Rhône.

The Barbentane Car Boot Sale: Solidarity Treasure Hunting at the Foot of Montagnette

Each year, the parents' association APE Les Moulins organizes its car boot sale in the Place du Marché in Barbentane, in the heart of this Provençal village located between Avignon and Montagnette. The event brings together dozens of private sellers offering bargain hunters the treasures from their attics, cellars, and closets. All profits are donated to support the school activities and outings for the pupils of Les Moulins school.

An Exceptional Village Between the Rhône and the Durance

Barbentane occupies a unique geographical position, at the confluence of the Rhône and the Durance, at the gates of Montagnette. This hilly massif, famous for its "rosé de Barbentane" mushrooms and Aleppo pines, offers a remarkable green setting. The village, with a population of around 4,000 inhabitants, preserves an exceptional historical heritage inherited from its medieval and classical past.

Remarkable Architectural Heritage

Barbentane is dominated by the Anglica Tower, a 28-meter high keep built in 1365 by Cardinal Grimoard, brother of Pope Urban V. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1925, this tower was used by Cassini as an astronomical observatory in 1760. The village also houses the Château de Barbentane, a 17th-century building in pale stone nicknamed the "Little Trianon of Provence" for its Italian-style terraces and its marble and stucco decorations. The Notre-Dame-de-Grâces Church, whose bell tower and porch have been classified as Historic Monuments since 1921, bears witness to the Romanesque and Gothic heritage of the town. The fortified gates Calendrale and du Séquier, dating from the 14th century, recall the village's defensive past.

Finds for All Budgets

The Barbentane car boot sale offers the typical diversity of Provençal flea markets: crockery and ceramics, books and comics, clothing and accessories, toys and board games, knick-knacks and decorative objects, tools and small furniture. The warm and family-friendly atmosphere of the Place du Marché, in the shade of the plane trees, invites leisurely browsing and bargaining in the purest tradition of southern French car boot sales.

The Bretoule Mill and Montagnette

Before or after your treasure hunt, visitors can discover the Bretoule Mill, the last vestige of the many windmills that once dotted the heights of Barbentane. A walk along the trails of Montagnette offers exceptional panoramas of the Rhône plain, the Durance, and the Alpilles, making for a pleasant day of treasure hunting in this village with its rich Provençal heritage.
