About Car boot sale Barbentane

The Barbentane Flea Market is an annual event organized by the APE Les Moulins at the Arènes (Route de Boulbon), at the entrance of this Provençal village nestled at the confluence of the Rhône and Durance rivers. Every spring, individuals and families take over the Arènes to offer bargain hunters a wide variety of items at low prices. The proceeds from the event are donated to the students of Les Moulins school. Barbentane, dominated by the majestic 14th-century Anglica tower and home to the castle nicknamed the «Petit Trianon de Provence», offers a remarkable heritage setting for a friendly day of bargain hunting in the heart of the Bouches-du-Rhône.

The Barbentane Flea Market: solidarity bargain hunting at the foot of the Montagnette

Every year, the parents' association APE Les Moulins organizes its flea market at the Arènes de Barbentane, Route de Boulbon, in the heart of this Provençal village located between Avignon and the Montagnette. The event brings together private exhibitors who come to offer bargain hunters treasures from their attics, cellars, and cupboards. All profits are donated to support the activities and school trips of the students of Les Moulins school. A refreshment stand and snack bar are available on site all day.

An exceptional village between the Rhône and Durance

Barbentane occupies a unique geographical position, at the confluence of the Rhône and Durance, at the gates of the Montagnette. This hilly massif, famous for its «rosés de Barbentane» mushrooms and Aleppo pines, offers a remarkable green setting. The village, with a population of approximately 4,000 inhabitants, preserves an exceptional historical heritage inherited from its medieval and classical past.

Remarkable architectural heritage

Barbentane is dominated by the Anglica tower, a 28-meter high keep built in 1365 by Cardinal Grimoard, brother of Pope Urban V. Classified as a Historic Monument since 1925, this tower was used by Cassini as an astronomical observatory in 1760. The village also houses the Château de Barbentane, a 17th-century building made of blonde stone nicknamed the «Petit Trianon de Provence» for its Italian-style terraces and marble and stucco decorations. The Notre-Dame-de-Grâces church, whose bell tower and porch have been classified as Historic Monuments since 1921, bears witness to the Romanesque and Gothic heritage of the town. The fortified Calendrale and Séquier gates, dating from the 14th century, recall the village's defensive past.

Finds for all budgets

The Barbentane flea market offers the typical diversity of Provençal brocantes: crockery and ceramics, books and comic strips, clothes and accessories, toys and board games, trinkets and decorative objects, tools and small furniture. The warm and family atmosphere of the Arènes, at the entrance to the village, invites visitors to stroll and negotiate in the purest tradition of flea markets in the south of France.

The Bretoule mill and the Montagnette

Before or after bargain hunting, visitors can discover the Bretoule mill, the last vestige of the many windmills that once dotted the heights of Barbentane. A walk on the Montagnette trails offers exceptional panoramic views of the Rhône plain, the Durance, and the Alpilles, pleasantly complementing a day of bargain hunting in this village with a rich Provençal heritage.
