Every year in April, the commune of Barbery hosts an original event that combines the pleasure of treasure hunting and the passion for gardening: a car boot sale combined with a plant fair. This original formula attracts a diverse audience, from bargain hunters to gardeners looking for plants for the season.
Barbery is a commune in Calvados located south of Caen, on the edge of the Norman bocage and the Caen plain. This peaceful village, crossed by the Laizon stream, is known for its former Cistercian abbey founded in the 12th century, of which imposing remains still exist. The bucolic setting of the village, between apple orchards and hedged meadows, is perfectly suited for a spring plant fair.
On one hand, private sellers offer their usual second-hand items: clothing, toys, books, crockery, trinkets, and small furniture. On the other hand, nursery owners and amateur gardeners present a selection of seasonal plants, shrubs, perennials, and vegetable plants. This original complementarity is the charm of the event and allows visitors to kill two birds with one stone: hunt for treasures and prepare their garden for the warmer days.
The event takes place outdoors, in the center of Barbery. The village atmosphere and Norman conviviality are present, with catering and refreshments available on site. It's the perfect opportunity to discover this charming village while enjoying the first beautiful days of spring.
