Fontenay-le-Comte's flea market is one of Vendée's biggest monthly events. Every 2nd Sunday on Boulevard du Chail - Place de Verdun, 6am-6pm. Up to 250 sellers, both private and professional - guaranteeing wide variety and often high quality.

2026 dates include 10 May, 14 June, 12 July, 9 August, 13 September, 11 October, 8 November, 13 December. This monthly regularity makes it a reliable event for collectors, designers and seasoned bargain-hunters who plan Fontenay-le-Comte visits around the calendar. Very affordable €2.50 per metre seller fee (min 5 m with vehicle).

Fontenay-le-Comte, southern Vendée Renaissance city

Sub-prefecture of around 14,000 in southern Vendée, at the Marais Poitevin's gate. Nicknamed "City of Art and History", with outstanding Renaissance heritage - one of Vendée's loveliest towns. Château de Terre-Neuve (listed), Notre-Dame church, Old Château, many Renaissance townhouses.

Famous for the Quatre-Tias fountain, the old bridge, the Vendée river quays through the centre. Southern gateway to the Marais Poitevin, 45 min from beaches (La Tranche-sur-Mer, L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer). Dynamic commercial, cultural (film and music festivals) and community life.

Tips

Arrive very early (6am) for best finds - pros trade among themselves at dawn. Place de Verdun and Boulevard du Chail are central, walkable. Extend with Fontenay's Renaissance heritage or Marais Poitevin (Maillezais 20 km).
