Annual car boot sale and flea market in the village of Lugarde, from the church square to the train station square, with a stop by the Gentiane Express
Every year in September, the small village of Lugarde, nestled at over 1,000 meters above sea level in the north of Cantal, comes alive for a day of flea market and car boot sale. The event takes place along the main street, from the church square to the train station square, transforming the village into a vast open-air market where private sellers and passionate bargain hunters mingle.
The main feature of this flea market is the passage of the Gentiane Express, the emblematic tourist train of Haute-Auvergne which runs on the historic line crossing Lugarde. Visitors can admire this picturesque train while browsing the stalls, a unique combination that makes this Cantal event so charming.
For over 25 years, the Lugarde flea market has attracted a number of visitors far exceeding the village's population, demonstrating its influence throughout the Cantal region. The event contributes to the liveliness and vitality of this rural mountain commune, in a preserved natural setting between volcanoes and summer pastures.
The organizers offer on-site catering, available by prior reservation, as well as a refreshment stand open throughout the day. The friendly and rustic atmosphere makes this day a special occasion for both locals and visitors passing through this preserved part of Cantal.
