Flea market and car boot sale on August 15th at Le Donjon
Every August 15th, the small town of Le Donjon hosts its annual flea market in a remarkable heritage setting. This town in northeastern Allier, which takes its name from the imposing feudal keep whose ruins still dominate the city, offers a picturesque treasure hunting route through its ancient streets and shaded squares.
The flea market is organized by the Musée du Patrimoine Rural du Donjon, an association museum that preserves and promotes the traditions and heritage of rural life in Bourbonnais. This affiliation gives the event a special flavor, with a focus on objects from rural heritage: old tools, peasant furniture, old kitchen utensils, and objects from everyday life of the past.
Le Donjon is a small town of character located in the Besbre valley, between Lapalisse and Digoin. Its architectural heritage—the Romanesque church, the half-timbered houses, the remains of the castle—and its hedgerow environment make it a pleasant place for a summer treasure hunt. Refreshments and food on site allow you to make the most of the day.
The choice of August 15th, a public holiday (Assumption Day), allows many visitors to enjoy this flea market. The day is part of the festive traditions of mid-summer, with the friendly atmosphere of village flea markets that are the charm of Bourbonnais.
