Grand professional flea market on Place Courbet in Ornans, hometown of Gustave Courbet
The professional spring flea market of Ornans brings together around thirty professional flea market dealers and antique dealers each year on the prestigious Place Courbet, in the heart of this Comtois town nestled in the Loue valley. Organized by the City of Ornans, this annual event invites bargain hunters and lovers of beautiful pieces to stroll among the stalls set up on the square, under the arcades of the Town Hall and on Place Saint-Vernier, to discover antique furniture, retro decorative objects, lighting, books, and curiosities.
Each spring, the Place Courbet in Ornans transforms into an open-air treasure market. Around thirty professional flea market dealers and antique dealers set up on this emblematic esplanade, under the arcades of the Town Hall and on the adjacent Place Saint-Vernier, to offer a rigorous selection of antique furniture, collectible objects, lighting, books, and retro decorative pieces.
Nestled in the Loue valley, Ornans is nicknamed the "little Venice of Franche-Comté" because of its half-timbered houses that seem to hang over the emerald waters of the river. The hometown of the realist painter Gustave Courbet (1819-1877), it houses the eponymous museum and medieval streets that give the event an incomparable setting. Place Courbet, in the heart of the historic center, perpetuates the memory of the great painter whose works are intimately linked to the Franche-Comté landscape.
The professional flea market of Ornans is a tradition rooted for several decades in the cultural and commercial life of the city. This spring edition, held annually in May, complements the summer edition in July, making Ornans a benchmark for professional flea markets in the Doubs region. The carefully selected exhibitors exclusively offer antique or collectible items, guaranteeing the quality and authenticity of the pieces presented.
Admission is free for visitors, who can stroll freely between the stalls from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bargain hunters will find both rare pieces and accessible decorative objects, while seasoned collectors can benefit from the expertise of professional dealers. The event attracts visitors from all over the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region and beyond.
