Spring flea market on the Market Square in Mareuil-en-Périgord
Every year in April, the Place du Marché in Mareuil-en-Périgord transforms into an open-air flea market, in the shade of the medieval castle. Organized by the association La Petite Brocante, this spring flea market opens the bargain hunting season in the north of Dordogne and attracts a loyal public of bargain hunters and strollers.
The Place du Marché in Mareuil-en-Périgord, a vast esplanade in the center of the village, has long hosted fairs and markets. On flea market days, stalls are set up on either side, offering regional furniture, antique tableware, decorative objects, books, trade tools, and various curiosities. The pale stone architecture of the village and the proximity of the castle give this flea market a particularly picturesque character.
A new commune created in 2016 by the merger of several villages, Mareuil-en-Périgord is dominated by its castle, one of the four baronies of Périgord. This plain castle, surrounded by a moat, is the last of its kind in the department. The village, crossed by the Belle, a tributary of the Dronne, offers remarkable built heritage with its Romanesque church, its turreted houses, and its washhouses. The commune is located between Brantôme and Nontron, in the heart of Périgord Vert.
The Spring Flea Market is open to all, with free admission for visitors. Exhibitors set up from 7 am for a full day until 6 pm. The event contributes to the animation of the village and the associative dynamism of this rural commune in the north of Dordogne.
