MJC Flea market in this railway village of the Allier
The Brocante des Jeunes de la MJC is held annually in April in Saint-Germain-des-Fosses, a commune located between Vichy and Varennes-sur-Allier. This village is historically linked to the railway — its marshalling yard was one of the most important in central France. The MJC (Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture) organizes this flea market in the Place de la Libération to fund its activities. From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission.
Saint-Germain-des-Fosses is a commune in the Vichy urban area, located north of Vichy on the road to Varennes-sur-Allier. The town is inseparable from its railway history: its marshalling yard, created in the 19th century at the crossroads of the Paris-Clermont and Lyon-Bordeaux lines, made Saint-Germain a major railway hub in central France.
The Saint-Germain-des-Fosses marshalling yard employed up to several hundred railway workers, making the commune a true railway town. Although activity has considerably decreased, the legacy of this era is still visible in the town's urban planning and identity. Lovers of railway objects may find their happiness on the stalls of the flea market.
The Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture of Saint-Germain-des-Fosses is an important player in local associative life. The annual flea market, held in the Place de la Libération, contributes to the financing of cultural and leisure activities offered to young people and residents of the commune.
Brocante MJC Saint-Germain-des-Fosses 2026. Sunday, April 26th, Place de la Libération, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Free admission.
