Every month of May, a large flea market sets up in the streets of the city center of Issoudun. Exhibitors, professionals and individuals, offer antiques, old furniture, trinkets, tableware, books, clothes, tools and bric-a-brac of all kinds. The shopping streets of the center offer a pleasant setting for this event which attracts bargain hunters from all over the north of the Indre.
Issoudun, sub-prefecture of the Indre, is a city of about 12,000 inhabitants known for its exceptional medieval heritage. The Tour Blanche, an imposing 12th-century keep, dominates the city and bears witness to the strategic importance of Issoudun in the Middle Ages. The Hospice Saint-Roch museum, housed in a former Hôtel-Dieu, holds remarkable art collections, including works donated by Fred Deux. The city is also famous for its balzaciens, Honoré de Balzac having set the plot of La Rabouilleuse there.
The May flea market in Issoudun is an opportunity to discover this charming city while hunting for bargains. The shops and restaurants in the city center are open and pleasantly complement the visit. Admission is free.
